McGill University Master's Degree Specialization in Bioethics

McGill University invites applications from graduates in health care,
philosophy, religious studies and law for its Master's Degree Specialization
in Bioethics. The bioethics specialization is an interdisciplinary academic
program that emphasizes both the conceptual and the practical aspects of
bioethics. It ordinarily takes two years to complete. The first year is
devoted to course work (including a clinical practicum) and the second to a
Master's thesis in bioethics. The application deadline is January 15, 1997.

The McGill bioethics specialization accepted its first students in 1992.
Since that time it has attracted students not only from Canada but from the
United Kingdom, the United States, Belgium, Iceland, Australia and
Jamaica. Students in the bioethics master's specialization have had their
work appear in publications such as the British Medical Journal,
Perspectives in Biology and Medicine, The Sciences, New Scientist and the
British Medical Bulletin. In 1994 and 1996 the Society for Health and
Human Values awarded its student grand prize to essays submitted by
McGill bioethics students.
