Monsanto obtains agreement on soybean seeds royalties

Monsanto has reached a transitory agreement to receive the claimed
royalties on the use of transgenic soybean seeds in South America. A
meeting of agricultural authorities from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and
Uruguay have agreed with Monsanto to pay a compensation for the harvested
soybean seeds, not actual royalties. The transitory agreement is valid
only for Paraguay and Brazil, countries which have not legalized GMOs
agriculture. These countries, together with Chile and Bolivia are members
of the CAS (South Cone Agricultural Group) which is to accept private
agreements between farmers for Brazil and Paraguay and Monsanto. As the
transgenic agriculture is regulated the compensation would turn into a
royalty, to be collected in the moment of the seeds purchasing.
