Current situation (Navarre), 2001 season.
- Hectarage sown with maize 15.584
- Hectarage sown with GMO maize, approx. 200 hectares.

Variety: characteristics
- Dracma, isogene of GMO with equal production quality except in 
transferred genes.
- Compa CB, authorized in Spanish Parliamentary papers 26-3-1998
Active for control of corn borers (Sesamia nonagrioides and Ostrinia 
nubilalis)
Novartis Seed marketed this GMO with event 176

Experiment: characteristics
- Undertaken in Tudela (Cierzo Hills)  Navarre- during the 1998, 1999 and 
2000 crop seasons.
- Hectarage 500m2
- Sowing density equivalent 71.000 to 72.000 plants per hectare.
- No insecticdes were used.

Objectives:
- Analize damage caused by second generation corn borers (moment in which 
the Bacillus thurengiensis gene in the GMO variety is no longer expressed)
- Analize the yields of both varieties

Presence of total live caterpillars (I)
No statistically significant differences were observed in:
- total number of caterpillars in the plant (p=0.722)
- total number of S. nonagrioides (p=0.088)
- presence of caterpillars in stalk (p=0.170)
- presence of caterpillars in cob (p=0.08)

Statistically significant differences were observed in:
- total number of O. nubilalis (p=0.003) Dracma more than Compa CB
- caterpillars in stalk (p=4.16 E-7) Compa CB more than Dracma
