5.- Genetic Flaws in Cloned Animals

The UK Independent carried an article on 30 April about French research at INRA, reported in The Lancet, about the identification of long-lasting defects associated with somatic cell cloning.
I have not seen the Lancet research but the newpaper reports that a cloned calf which had developed normally for six weeks suffered severe anaemia and died because of incomplete development of the lymph glands.
The calf's parent was itself a "healthy" clone so the conclusion is that the defect came from the nuclear transfer process.
